FAQ

The Help Center

What if I have no experience on a kayak?

No worries! For people with little to no experience we offer instructions on how to paddle efficiently and comfortably! Your guide will give you a full overview of your FeelFree kayak and all it’s features.

What if the weather is bad that day?

I’ve only been fishing a few times, do you show us what to do on fishing guides?

We will do everything short of setting the hook for you! Your rods and reels will come pre rigged with baits, and we will explain how to cast them, where to cast them, and how to work the bait.

Do I need to bring my own gear?

We offer everything that you need to enjoy a day on the water with us! The kayak, paddle, and life vest will be sitting on the ramp waiting for you when you arrive. Enter your answer here. Be thoughtful, write clearly and concisely, and consider adding written as well as visual examples. Don’t forget to go over what you’ve written to make sure that if it was your first time visiting the site, you’d understand your answer.

We understand that the weather up here in the mountains can change at the drop of a hat. If we get rained out, or the wind is crazy, we can absolutely reschedule. If it’s not possible to reschedule, you will be fully refunded the next day.

FAQs

Our guests mostly drive themselves to the lake. It’s more convenient for them to show up with everything ready, and then get right in the car and leave after the trip! However, We can drive you if absolutely needed!

Can I bring my Phone/ Camera with me?

Yes!! . There are places on every guide to stop, rest in the shade, swim and have snacks! Rest assured, we will not be paddling the whole time.

Who is driving to the lake?

Will we be able to swim?

Are there weight restrictions?

All of our FeelFree kayaks have around a 500lbs weight capacity. And they have plenty of storage for lots of gear!

Can I bring my own food/drinks?

Bringing your own food, drinks and water is a great idea! Our guides pack out some protein bars and granola bars in case someone gets hungry. Please bring your own reusable water bottle because we hate wasting plastics. We are, of course, conservationists.

Absolutely! We highly recommend putting your phone or camera in a waterproof case or box while on the water. (Make sure it floats though!) We are not responsible for lost items while on the water. Can I bring my Phone/ Camera with me?

What if it rains?

Afternoon rain showers are common up here in the mountains during the summer. Most of them don't last long, but you could get wet! Swimming is allowed during our trips (so bring a bathing suit), but you are more than welcome to pack a rain jacket if you would like.

Can I drink/ smoke when I come on the water?

We understand that having a drink on the water is summer time fun, However, legally we are not allowed to drink on public waters in NC. (I’m also not your mother..) Smoking is fine, as long as your waste accompanies you back to the boat ramp.

What if someone gets hurt?

Our guides are all Certified Wilderness First Responders. We are trained to take leadership roles in the wilderness in case anything were to happen while on your guide. We come with a full first aid kit every trip!
